Capital of the Dutch portion of St. Maarten is the town of Philipsburg although St. Maarten is an island that has two distinct sides. North there is the French side with its capital being Marigot The other side is the Dutch side, whose capital is Marigot. Philipsburg is located in the southern portion of the island.
